Local Healthwatch Kent - Press Release

21 Feb 2013

Helping people find their voice is crucial when it comes to health and social care.

From 1 April, a new organisation will be in place that will give people an opportunity to share their views about Kent’s health and social care services to see where they are doing well and how they could improve.

The information we need

You will be asked to fill in a form so we get an idea of how much help you need. Wheelchair users must be able to self-transfer from wheelchair to a car. Assistance dogs welcome.

We will ask you for your name, address, telephone number and an idea of your age.

Notice

  • We like to have as much notice as possible of your appointments, a minimum of
    2 working days
  • If your journey is in the evening or weekend, we would appreciate a little more notice
  • drives can be booked for any day, weekends, evenings and bank holidays

Car parking

  • If drivers have to pay car parking fees whilst waiting for you, the amount will be added to your bill
  • If you are registered with the blue badge scheme please take the badge with you

Waiting

  • Drivers will wait up to one hour
  • If an appointment is likely to last longer than that, the driver may go home and return for you later
  • This will obviously make your journey more expensive

Drivers

  • Our drivers are all volunteers who use their own cars and give up their free time to help the local community.
  • We pay them a petrol allowance for the miles they drive. They have insurance and are secuitry checked.

Payment

  • Please DO NOT PAY THE DRIVER (you will be invoiced monthly)
  • We endeavor to keep costs as low as possible and do not make a profit from the scheme
  • We are grateful for donations, however small, to help us continue this vital service
  • A bill will be sent to you at the end of the month in which the drive(s) take place
  • We appreciate payment within 14 days if possible.

Cancellations

  • Please inform us as early as possible if your journey is cancelled
  • If you fail to do this and our driver has a wasted journey, you will be charged the drivers mileage
