West Kent CVS - Advancing Voluntary and Community Action

Volunteers

We are always in need of more volunteers and welcome anyone who feels they would like to help in making a difference.

The particular support a volunteer gives is negotiated between the volunteer, the client and the co-ordinator. Once this has happened, an agreement is signed between all parties. The arrangement is monitored, and the volunteer can bring any concerns or difficulties back to West Kent Positive Support at any time. The amount of time a volunteer is able to give is less important than the strength of their commitment.

Volunteers are given training before they are matched up to a client. This training includes awareness of HIV/AIDS so prior knowledge about these condotions is not essential. The most important qualities for a volunteer to posses are empathy, a non-judgemental attititude, a strong understanding of confidentiality, and reliability.
